It begins in the summer of 2001. For eighteen months, Beth Vine’s ashes have been with Manuel Martinez, the Spanish undertaker. They are to be collected by Beth’s daughters, Alison and Hannah, who will release them into the sea near Andalucia. The story begins and ends in London, and investigates how the sisters, their children and partners and friends, handle the aftermath of Beth’s death. It is an emotional story about survival, bereavement, friendship and love, set in the chaos of London and the swiftly changing Andalucia.
